![]() ![]() In the long run, it may mean nothing, but why take the chance of damaging the always-fragile psyche of a young quarterback still struggling with the job? The decision to start Hutchinson over Carter makes absolutely no sense, not based on what the Cowboys say they want to accomplish this season. Maybe Campo had an '89 flashback this week. Dave Campo, by the way, was a member of that staff. Only two staff members, Rhome and special teams coach Alan Lowry (a holdover from the Tom Landry regime), voted to start Aikman. Jimmy finally told him to shut up and make his pick. "The first five coaches all went with Walsh. He held a staff meeting and asked each coach to give his opinion on whether I should be the starter, or Steve Walsh. "I've never heard Jimmy admit this," said Aikman, sounding amused, "but I know it's true. Aikman recalled a scene from his rookie season in 1989 involving Jimmy Johnson, a rookie head coach, and his mostly rookie coaching staff. Troy Aikman watched with interest, and some deja vu, as Quincy Carter balked a bit over Chad Hutchinson being named the starter for Saturday night's exhibition game. When it comes to the decision-making process involving young quarterbacks, even the best coaches can become temporarily impaired because of the consumption of stupid pills. This misdirection play is a flat-out stupid callĪbout that strange announcement from San Antonio this week: Galloway will return to form this year too. But all in all, the Ismail injury does hurt, but it not as bad as it seems. Randal Williams is a physical WR that can flat out fly, but he has to get consistent and ward off nagging injuries. There are couple of other kids that will get a chance now since Ismail is gone. I thought he was one of the steals of the draft. Also look for Antonio Bryant from Pitt to move into Ismail slot. Carter has looked good in pre-season and the Cowboys "D" will be even better than last year. He will make the minimum or a little higher per year over his contract which is not guarnteed, hence the bonus. Also Jerry Jones is a Quincy Carter supporter and yes he brought in Hutchison, but the sigining bonus is just that. It will be tough but they have a good chance. I think they have a good chance to make it to the playoffs. Actually I agree with GR and I am no Cowboy fan. ![]()
